Washington A Cover was born in Frederick County, Maryland, June 25, 1835. He departed this life at Peru, Indiana, August 25, 1915, at the age of 80 years and two months. He was the son of William and Lucinda Cover, with whom he emigrated to Indiana when he was quite young and remained a resident until his death. He was the second child of a family of eleven children, four of whom are living. They are Mrs. Eliza Savage of Macy, Indiana; Perry Cover of Denver, Indiana; Alonzo Cover of Logansport, and Sarah Whistler of Chile, Indiana.
He married Elizabeth Shank December 9, 1860. (She was Barbara Ellen Shank Wright's sister and Bertha Ramsett Johnson's Grandaunt.) She died December 7, 1901. To this union were born six children., five of whom are living,. They are as follows: Edward L. Cover of Cando.. North Dakota; Sarah C. Keracher of South Bend, Indiana; Noah C. Cover of Macy, Indiana; Harvey A. Cover of Penn. (?), and Anna E. Anderson of Elkhart, Indiana. He served his country in the Civil War, having enlisted with the 155th Indiana Volunteers. He served his country in the company K. He received Honorable discharge the 4th day of August 1865, at Dover, Delaware. He united with the German Baptist Church about thirty years ago, of which he remained a consistent member until his death.
Note: Ann Elizabeth Cover, sister to Washington A. Cover, born also in Frederick County, Maryland. She was born August 4, 1833, and died March 16, 1918, aged 85 years, 3 months and 12 days. She was the oldest of eleven children born to William and Lucinda Cover.
