Resources On The Internet
presentation
to my local NMSS chapter's annual meeting I had to ponder the question, "What
makes a list of resources for PWMS different from a list of resources for other
people?" Please notice that I did not say "normal people."
The links on this page have been verified again on October 19, 2002.
We, PWMS ,
are basically the same as anyone else, aside from our common bond of an incurable illness,
the monster we call MS. Sure, there are some drugs on the market, which
cost more than some houses do just for a year's supply, but they offer no cure. They
do, however, offer a chance to slow the progression. This is one of the reasons that
PWMS are forced into a constant struggle to keep abreast on the latest research, results,
alternatives and "informed experience" in as many places we can find. This
is due to the fact that each of has our own unique relationship with this monster on
a basis that changes daily.
What PWMS have found is that what works for one person may not
work for another person. Every case of MS is different and, in the long run, nobody
can predict with 100% certainty what will happen over the next few minutes, hours, days or
years. So we search all the available resources we can in order to learn what we can
where we can. There is a lot of information available about MS. Unfortunately
just learning about MS is not the end all in dealing with MS. We (okay, some of
us ) still have jobs, families and houses to take care of today! That puts us
right back to needing the same resources that everyone else needs to have access to.
We may use them in different ways, but we still need them too.
